Oakland Hills Golf Club is a Public 18 holes golf course located in Battle Creek, Michigan.
Oakland Hills Golf Club first opened for play in 1972. The course was designed by George V. Nickolaou.
Oakland Hills has a narrow front nine and a more open back nine. Many holes are tree-lined, and the fairways are bordered with a standard cut of rough. Water hazards come into play on thirteen holes. The terrain is rolling, and the huge greens are undulating, their speeds are determined by the seasonal weather conditions.
The old clubhouse has a history. The clubhouse is an 1860s country mansion reportedly used during and just prior to and during the Civil War as an Underground Railroad stop. The clubhouse also served as a safe house for Al Capone and his Chicago gang during the 1920s. In the final years before the construction of the golf club, the picturesque house, built in the Italianate style was home to a family of dairy farmers.
Par for the course is 72. From the back tees, the course plays to 6,631 yards. From the forward tees, the course measures 5,517 yards. The longest hole on the course is # 15, a par-5 that plays to 595 yards. The shortest hole on the course is # 14, a par-3 that plays to 105 yards from the back tees.
Watch out for # 3, a 409-yard par-4 challenge, and the #1 handicap hole on the course. The easiest hole is # 7, a 300-yard par-4.
The signature hole is #6, a 165-yard, par 3, requiring a tee shot over a pond to an undulating green.
The course permanently closed at the end of the 2021 golf season.

Play here every few years as its half way between my son's house and mine. Being located 3 minutes off I-94 its easy to get to and get back going on your way. Greens are the best feature for this course as they hold shots and yet putt very true. Layout on some holes (#2, #3, #8) you need to look at landing distances from the tee very close or you'll get into trouble. Overall conditions are always good and with the rolling layout produces some blind shots that you need to view before hitting. Shooting 39/41 w/33 putts for $28.00 on this 6,631yd layout was worth the stop, BUT its not the Oakland Hills in Bloomfield Hills for you non-Michigan players.

Drove by here on my way to LaPorte, IN to play the Legacy Hills GC and saw a For Sale sign and a “Thanks” on their course sign. Looked it up on Facebook and saw that it didn’t open this year and post’s that $750k was the asking price. For a owner built layout, this was challenging and well maintained layout. Sad to see it go.
